The Industrial Property Institute (IPI) is a public institution of national level in charge of the administration of industrial proprerty rights in Mozambique, i.e. their registration.

The IPI is under the tutelage of the Ministry of Industry and trade. It has its own legal, financial and administrative autonomy. The IPI is located in Maputo city.

The IPI was created under the Ministers council decree nº 50/2003 of 24th December .It has started its activities on May 2004.

REGISTRATION OF MARKS

The registration of marks is done at the IPI headquarters in Maputo.

The register can be done by the owner of the right, its representative or by a proxy that must be an official patent and trademark agent (recognized by the IPI).

PATENT AND TRADEMARK ATTORNEYS

According to the Mozambican industrial property law, all procedures related to the industrial property rights undertaken before IPI, must be done perdsobally by the applicant or by a proxy with qualification of patent and trademark agent.

There are 74 recognized Patent and trademark agents of the industrial property in Mozambique.

FORMS

The application registration of the IPRs must be presented in a proper form established by the IPI. The applicants are allowed to fill, print and submit the application filed to the IPI. The form must be filled in portuguese.
